Police Parade!

In the Prospect Heights Message Boards:

billtron writes: “Hooray! Did anyone else catch the dozens of police cars heading up Eastern Parkway toward the arch flashing their lights (last night)? Parades are fun!”

snootyusher: “I was in a cab on the way home from the airport at about 9:45 PM, and it seems like this parade continued up Flatbush and made a left on Tillary towards the Brooklyn Bridge.”

Stray Voltage on Sterling Place

From the Prospect Heights Message Boards:

jimbo79 writes: “My dog seems to have identified stray voltage in front of 398 Sterling Place. We used to pass that way twice a day on our walks. About a month ago, I noticed would hold back as I approached this spot, and then race ahead as fast as he could, in both cases as far as the length of the leash would allow. I shrugged it off at first but then he became reluctant to even leave the house at walk time. Then I realized he was showing the same behavior that he showed at the Underhill Avenue hot spot in 2004…”

“Back in 2004, this dog exhibited the same behavior, laying back then skipping ahead, each day as we passed a spot on Underhill between Sterling and St. Johns. I thought it was weird that he always did that at the same spot, but didn’t think it was serious. Then one day when there was a lot of melted snow and salt on the sidewalk, my other dog (RIP), who never before had seemed to react, fell over on his side, writhing in pain…”

New Game: GentriConfrontation (TM) !

boardgame.jpgpensodyssey announces in the Prospect Heights Message Boards:

It’s strange! It’s savage! It’s cruel! It’s called… GentriConfrontation ™ !!!

Here’s how you play: all you have to do is see how quickly you can turn any topic into an “anti-gentrification” rant!

Example: Suppose a person posts on where the best place to buy beer is. You could respond sensibly (“The Met on Vanderbilt has really improved its selection”), or you could reply humorously (“I really like the beer at Jackie’s 5th Amendment”). These would be good replies… but if you want to win GentrifiConfrontation ™, you’d have to reply like this:

“Back in the day, you could only get 40’s of OE there. Too bad all the yuppies moved in.”

YOU’VE BEEN GENTRICONFRONTED!! DO NOT PASS SODA, DO NOT COLLECT YOU CRACK VIALS!!!

C’mon everybody! It’s as fun as kids in bars, it’s as free as apartments on
Crazy Lane, and it’s easier than a boycott!!

STRATEGY TIP: How to Meet Halle Berry on Bergen St.

cvc reports on the Prospect Heights Message Board:”Halle Berry movie to be filmed on Bergen Street, at least according to the ‘No Parking’ tell-tale pink movie flyer. The movie is called ‘Perfect Stranger.’ Cars have to be moved on Monday night at 9.”

metulj asks: “Is it a ‘Move your car or it will get moved to the nearest safe, legal spot’ deal?”

“… I got $200 out of a movie production crew in Knoxville, TN (Box of Moonlight) once because they wanted me to move my car from in front of my house. They said they had permission to tow all cars yada yada. I told them that if I saw a tow truck backing up to my car I would start punching tickets.”

“I was asked how much it would take to get me to move the car on my own. I figured 2 C-notes would cover it. Got to eat lunch with John Turturro too.”

“Now there’s a strategy to meet Halle Berry (unless you are a hater). Box of Moonlight is an excellent flick, IMHO.”

Goodbye, Crazy Lane

The stretch of St. Johns Place between Underhill and Washington, known to DHers as “Crazy Lane” (who started that?) is apparently making large strides toward sanity, or at least gentrification.

RBG writes in the Prospect Heights Message Boards: “On my block alone, there are 3 buildings in which owners are not renewing leases and just a few days ago a FOR SALE sign went up on a Section-8 building…”

Jack Krohn says: “Wow, that’s great news! That should speed up the gentrification of so-called ‘Crazy Lane’, something that I support without apology.”

Is it true? Apparently so. Ben posted this from the Massey Knakal website:

355 & 427 Saint John Place, Brooklyn, NY (Saint Johns Place between Washington Avenue and Underhill Avenue)

These are two 4-story multifamily buildings with approximately 28,986 square feet, located on Saint Johns Place between Underhill Avenue and Washington Avenue. There are a total of 32 apartments. In addition, there are air-rights for approximately 15,176 square feet of residential space. The buildings were renovated 1983 under the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Project-Based Section 8 Program. The owner did not renew the Section 8 status for the buildings. This is a great investment opportunity. Asking Price: $5,000,000″

Carnivore notes that this works out to only $172 per square foot, not even counting the value of the air rights, which seems really low. Anybody got $1 million in cash for a down payment?

"Park Slope" Condos… in Crown Heights

MikeWalton718 reports in the Prospect Heights Message Boards: “The ‘Park Slope Garage’ on Sterling Place btw Washington and Classon is being rennovated, or more likely torn down to make way for brand new condos…”

“I know what you all are thinking: ‘Park Slope Garage’? Isn’t that in Crown Heights? The answer would be yes, but on the other hand, they’ve been abandoned for like 8ish years, I hear and they were infested with rats. I think it’ll be neato. I hope anyway.”

“As she turned to look behind her, a guy in a red hoodie grabbed her from behind and put a gun to her temple. She started to scream, and the guy just said ‘shut up bitch’ to her over and over. She glanced at the gun and she said it looked orange or red…”

“She kept on screaming and the guy threw her on the ground…”
