Loverly crooklyn writes on the I have watched as the drug dealers on my corner take over my street over the past 6 months. It seemed that nothing would be done. But finally, there was a raid on one of the main drug buildings on the block…”
“Last night, as I pulled into Lincoln Place to park my car after a night of grocery shopping, I was stopped by five SUVs blocking the road. I got out ready to scream at someone, and call the police to come and clear the traffic, when someone at the corner told me, it was the police.”
“I call 311 at least once a week to complain about the gang of hoodlums playing dice in front of my stoop. At night, I have to park on St. Johns, because all the dealer’s friends and customers have taken up every legal, and illegal, parking spot. I am constantly walking around waiting for the gunshots to come out because I never know how bad it could get.”
“I know that this raid is not a cure-all, but … it’s a step in the right direction.”

what building on lincoln? I live on Eastern Parkway and Washington and always thought the bodega on St. Jons and washington was where the trouble was….
Here is my biased view on Lincoln btwn Underhill/Washington! I have been in the neighborhood since May of ’98. That block has NOT changed one iota since then. I have had friends who have live on that block (in the building on the corner of Wash/Lincoln across from the offending bodega). They would call the police every evening when they got home from work about the dealing on the corner…about the chicken bones left under the windshield wipers and such. So, it’s been 9 years and nothing has changed. This probably has to do w/the fact that our precinct station is located on Utica, just a few blocks south of Fulton. Out of site, out of mind.
My parents were bothered by the fact that there were dealers outside 24/7 when I first moved in. I have taken the view that they are slinging weed, not rock…so, for me I take some comfort in that! Also, if you live here long enough these people see you daily, know who you are and they are the eyes and ears of your block. You are NOT likely to be mugged by these people because you can identify them, also keeping the police off the block is a priority for them! My spouse a few years ago was accosted by a homeless man from outside of the neighborhood on Lincoln and Underhill. Who do you think came to his rescue and stopped the attempted mugging? The “thugs” from Lincoln Place. They didn’t know my spouse’s name, but recognized him as someone who lives here and they busted up the situation in 2 seconds and chastised the man telling him that this guy LIVES here and has been a resident for yea-long years, white or NOT. It took the police 2 hours to come and by then the guy was LONG GONE! My spouse was left w/sore ribs for the next few days but also w/names to some of those faces to who came to his rescue in a time of need. We see these people on the daily and wave hello!
I don’t like these people’s chosen “profession”, but I sure am glad that they were there when they were and if they weren’t out there everyday taking in the sights and slinging, who knows what might have happened? So, you have take the good w/the “bad”.
Just my opinion!!!!
