Hot on the heels of allegations that Brooklyn Industries is co-opting “bike culture”, selling poorly made clothes, and being really uncool about returns, we’ve got more comments from isadora, who reported Saturday in blog comments here on Daily Heights:
“Their winter jackets do not conform with necessary laws that require them to clearly state the type/amount of down. I think they are completely getting over of clueless hipsters who care more about brand than quality. It’s a shame.”
Maybe somebody from Brooklyn Industries can respond to these comments and clear up the confusion. The description of the Einstein Bomber (right) clearly states “50% down 50% feathers”. This is not enough info? Do we need to know where the down came from?
Honestly… do we really care where the feathers came from?
I think you may have just proved her point. 🙂
Sorry, couldn’t resist. The issues here might be (a) quality of filler material and (b) information relevant to allergy sufferers. Just a guess.
A friend of mine worked there at BI in the office. They never paid her. I’ve been mad at them since. Plus their designs are soooo cookie-cutter rip-offs of styles that peaked the year before.
Actually, a lot of people–like me–have allergies to down. Mine is not that bad, but if the jacket is filled with nasty stuff it can cause an allergy attack in me. I had some pillows I bought–pre-realization of my allergy–that were “100% Down”. But the feathers were not clean to say the least and containing alot of what can only be called dander and junk. And it really screwed me up… And it’s what inspired me to get some allergy testing done.
Brooklyn Industries–if they are doing this–are doing what tons of “schmate” merchants have done for years. Fill products with whatever they can find to cut costs and save $$$. And BI hikes up the prices, sells it wrapped in hipster pretense and TADA! A sale is made…
I really like the fact there are local businesses in NYC, but this is not good.
