Prospect Heights Message Boards:
“I cannot stress the importance of visiting a potential apartment building repeatedly, and at various times during the day. Also, speak with tenants about things like repairs…security, etc.”
“I live in one of the gracious twin grey buildings on Underhill across from ‘Associated’ (bodega).”
“Had I spoken with my neighbors & visited the building at various times of the day prior to moving into my apartment I would have learned that:”
*People loiter in the halls, use & sell drugs until all hours of the morning.
*The hallways are always dirty, garbage & miscellaneous food items are deposited there.
*Garbage is thrown out of windows.
*Mailboxes are vandalized.
*Repairs are only made after repeatedly calling & yelling at management personnel. (I’ve been informed that there is a three-year waiting list for repairs.)
*Homeless people are allowed to take up residence in the garbage/recycling areas.
*Arsonists repeatedly set fire to various parts of the building, resulting in our elevator being out of service for several months.
“I don’t remember this being the Brooklyn I grew up in…”

dOH!
Although it may be true that “MissNY writes in the
Prospect Heights Message Boards” the DailyHeights editor forgot to mention that she wrote it back in Oct 2005. So better not to bother reading the thread.
Busted! MissNY’s post is 90+ days old–can anyone fathom how ancient that is?
Picture, if you will, the Dark Ages of Late 2005… a far away world in which Ariel Sharon is actively ruling Israel … a world in which “Pizza Hut Cheesy Bites” is but a but a fanciful dream being cooked up in the minds of food scientists … a world in which the Pittsburgh Steelers have won only 4 Super Bowls…
The advanced age of this post–more than one quarter of a year!–renders it completely irrelevant to modern Prospect Heights! Please ignore this historical curiosity.
i currently live there. today. 2/7/06. all of that is still true.
That building has been a famous dump for many years. Frankly I don’t think you’d need to visit it on several occasions at different times of the day or night to figure that out.
Yeah totally, Thurstan. It looks like a dump on first sight, so I kinda rolled my eyes when I originally read that post. Then again, so does my building and that would also be true. You get what you pay for!
I live next door to you. I have one question:
**Who in your building (I think its your building) is playing sitcoms or classical music REALLY LOUD at 2-5am every few days? I’ve lived here for years and never had that noise issue. If you have any ideas, it would make for a better noise complaint.
Also, while I sympathize with you about your building, you may want to know that it used to be worse. The first floor used to be completely boarded up. When the new owners redid the building (and pitched out many valuable old fasioned bathtubs), they apparently also bought out about 1/3 of the residents. Thankfully, the rest of the residents were able to keep up w the massive rent hike.
