From the
I-Thought-You-Couldn’t-Do-This-Anymore dept.:
Observe the freshly poured concrete, sloping gently downward toward the curb, its edge decisively painted a bold and forbidding yellow.
Observe the brand new black metal gate with its prominent NO PARKING sign.
This can mean only one thing: You can count on spending an extra 1.89 minutes cruising for a parking spot next time you’re foolish enough bring your non-garaged vehicle back to Prospect Heights after 6 pm.
Why do so many people own cars in a neighborhood with good access to public transportation?
Because many of us work, or are regularly called, outside the city where the public transportation is not so good.
If don’t like – first check address.
Check city web site and make sure approved curb cut.
What is definitely NOT LEGAL – is painting the curb yellow- Only the city is allowed to do that.
One complaint won’t do it…get a dozen neighbors to call 311 and your community board – and post the address here so some of us can file complaints.
I’m sure it’s legal and approved – you would have to be pretty bold to try to get away with an illegal curb cut in Brooklyn these days.
Pretty bold? Your kidding right? Check out the occupied territory known as Brooklyn’s Chinatown, there are a million illegal driveways! People literally park on the sidewalk. The standard of living in that territory in unlivable.
yes curb cut is likely legal – if now a licensed parking lot. But better to check.
But still should complain about the Yellow.
you must first get your neighborhood approval before you can install a parking space where there was none, this would be on file, call 311. but if there was always a garage there, then it is legal, and as they say, the yellow is excessive since there is no fire hydrant there.
Just paint grey over it. With the intelligence level of meter maids, they’ll probably ticket you for hanging over the yellow. So, just paint it grey… no more illegal than people painting it yellow, it could even be said you’re “removing unsightly vandalism.” enjoy.
Isn’t that on Prospect Place?
Put in a fake fire hydrant and watch the owner flip out!
Yep, Prospect near Underhill.
FYI before paving it was only a lot.
As I said before, Ron’s curb cut is legit. See here:
CURB CUT LOCATED ON SOUTH SIDE OF PROSPE CT PLACE 90′ WEST OF UNDERHILL VENUE
Looks as if I’m in the minority here. As long as the parking space is used by more than one car I think off road parking is better — not worse — for the neighborhood.
If it’s for one car then you have the case of reserved parking, but if it’s for two or more then you free up space for others.
tht’a just it–it is only for one car……….
alright, i’ll be the first to admit it…
this, i covet.
Time to get your community board and council- person on the line and find out how someone is getting curbcuts to park 1 car (I think 2 cars is still to few – maybe 3).
Maybe you can just live in your car. Check this out from curbed
BubbleWatch™: The $55,000 Brooklyn Condo
It’s possible to find a condo in Brooklyn for $55,000, the Gotham Gazette reports. The catch:
Of course, this is just for your car. Rose’s firm began selling spots in its “condo parking garage” after most regular parking garages in the area were closed down and converted into apartments to capitalize on the hot market. The car condos, she says, “are selling like hotcakes.”
