We’ve been through When Good Shayas Go Bad. We did Fresh Vegetable Food Fight. There has been some minor hating on the hairless cat, and it’s still unclear whether nail salons constitute economic development. Today on Jerry: “Where does Prospect Heights end and Crown Heights begin?”
TOPIC: just wondering where ph ends and ch begins [Daily Heights Forums]
Crown Heights is just too goddam big.
I like to go with the enlarged MTA maps at the Park Place shuttle and Franklin Ave stations. They state that the PH’s eastern border is Franklin Ave.
I used to put the boundary at Bedford Avenue, but I’ve since revised that to Franklin. I know that longtime residents place it at Washington.
Having lived on both sides of Washington, I suggest a field test. Go to Park and Washington. Stand on the west side (Utopia bar, dormant police station, large concrete “park”) then stand on the east side (Cosby-esque brownstones, leafy trees, people who nod at each other on the sidewalk). Two different worlds, let alone neighborhoods.
Such a typical Cosbyist perspective. But just what I would expect to hear from an East Side Nodder.
Encyclopedia of New York City states that borders of Prospect Heights are Atlantic AVe to the North, bounded East by Washington Ave, south by Eastern Pkwy & West by Flatbush Ave.
Crown Heights borders are North-Atlantic Ave, East-Ralph Ave, South-Empire Blvd and west by Flatbush Ave.
Hope that clarifies for all.
That second description appears to include the first.
I would go with the encyclopedic version. Sources generally more accurate. MTA maps not sure what they are basing it on & the “borders vary from station map to station map.
