All the new development around here is getting overwhelming… Staceyjoy has pumped her insider real estate contacts for the following information:
"we’re getting a bakery
on St. Marks and Vanderbilt, in the building on the corner, the big
one that recently underwent a gut reno … I
know it’s not Blue Sky (from 5th Ave.), unfortunately. Also found out the Sweetpea Lounge, on the
corner of Dean and Vanderbilt, is due to open very soon … Very exciting, eh? Especially the bakery … BTW, Saturday marked the opening of Cato Photography right across the
street from me. The guy who owns it, John, is quite nice, and their
sign is lovely at night."
Before we know it there will be a place to buy vegetables around here.
Oops! Sweetpea is on the corner of PACIFIC, not Dean, sorry!
Are you sure that place on the corner of Pacific is opening soon? It looked pretty raw when I walked by a couple days ago.

can some of the oldtimers here let me know how long it took vanderbilt to get fully developed?
i’m waiting for when washington is fully developed w/ not so many auto body shops by atlantic.
ltjbukem — My impression is that Vanderbilt used to be “fully developed” — just look at all those storefronts — then went downhill. Now it’s climbing uphill again.
I have a neighbor on Washington {where I live} who’s lived there for 44 years, he told me that Washington was a thriving, happening and busy street…until the Crown Heights riots, I don’t know 15 or so years ago? He said that the businesses were looted and destroyed, and Washington never recovered, until now. It still has some ways to go, believe me, but it does get better every year. Same with Vanderbilt. There is no way I would have moved my shop there 2 or 3 years ago. NO WAY. But now is a different story. Every little new place that opens up has a positive ripple effect, I saw that phenomena in action at my old location on 6th. Just have to do your little bit, and everyone benefits.
I’ve heard that Vanderbilt {and most of PH, actually} was destroyed by crack, and 20 or so years ago, they were giving the buildings away.
