Prospect Heights Dilemma: Parents/friends/relatives visiting. Tiny apartment. Few choices for nearby hotel, guest house, hostel, flophouse, or seedy rent-by-the hour place on side street in Park Slope. Solution: Good question. This new dailyheights category, Accommodations, is a start. Entry number one:
Bed and Breakfast Marisa (www.brooklynbedandbreakfast.net) at 288 Park Pl.
718-399-9535; 917-865-7428 | Rates $95-130
A local Old Media outlet (which describes the space as "cozy, but uninspired" and "mediocre" in the romance department) says breakfast is "not included" (so, that would make it a Bed-and-Breakfast-Not-Included?). But Marisa’s website say "fresh-brewed
coffee or tea, fresh fruit, fresh-squeezed orange juice, bagels and
spreads is served in your room."
My future in-laws stayed there when they came up in October. They loved it. The garden-level apartment is huge, with a full-size EIK, an extra bedroom and access to the garden (backyard). They’ll be staying there for the wedding as well.
I thought it was nice—nothing spectacular. Though why call it a B&B when the room/apt has a functioning kitchen in it? I haven’t seen the other room(s).
There’s suppossedly another B&B on Carlton right off Park. Numerous attempts to contact them have been in vain. It’s probably long-gone.
The one on Carlton is (was?) called Garden Green. My parents and my in-laws have both stayed there, but I don’t know if it’s been more recent than Christmas of 2000.
Look for a flag, east side of the street.
i believe there’s a b&b on washington ave,
down in clinton hill, called washington arms hotel or something. i forget the name..
um, there’s a place at washington and greene called “washington hotel apartments” but i wouldn’t characterize it as a b&b.
hey that reminds me, do you guys remember that ‘hotel’ on lincoln pl that shut down a year ago? they rented rooms by the hour … fill in the blanks …
“Garden Green” is certainly still around, but I wouldn’t recommend it. It might be ok for you as long as you don’t have to interact with the woman who owns it. I’m currently looking for a decent place for my folks, and I checked out Garden Green, but upon my inquiring how comfortable the bed is there (since my Dad has had back problems in the past), I was subjected to a condescending lecture from the owner about how the place is “like family” and how I “need to go stay at a Marriott.” I’m not easily offended, but this place was offensive. I’m going to check out Marisa or the place next to it.
