What is dailyheights?

A place where people can post news, information and various fun things related to Prospect Heights, a small neighborhood near Prospect Park in Brooklyn, New York, USA.

Is this for real, or are you some startup business that would be wasting my time?

It’s for real. How you waste your time is up to you.

Why did you start this site?

Every neighborhood should have a place to go for news, information, fun ideas, and (voluntary) time-wasting. It should be created by people who live there, or who have lived there, or who want to live there. If that describes you, then this site is for your benefit (see discussion thread).

Can I put something on your site?

Yes. That is the whole purpose of dailyheights. As long as it’s relevant to people in the neighborhood, and not blatantly promotional, it will probably work out.

Can I publicize my event?

Yes. See the Events Calendar page.

I really want to contribute. But I just can’t think of the perfect idea right now. What do I do?

Stop trying so hard. Relax. An article idea doesn’t have to be perfect and fully thought through. In fact, if it’s more than two paragraphs, then you’ve probably overthought it. It can be as simple as a photo you just took or something remarkable you just saw. Just start typing.

Can I write something about a great new restaurant in Park Slope?

Prospect Heights is not a hamster cage. We go out. We have been to Manhattan. Some people have even visited red states.

Can I just post directly to dailyheights?

Yes and no. You can post anything you like in the Dailyheights Forums. On the main site, there is a very, very, very small core group of authors that have to process and post everything. It would be nice to have a public blog function, but that’s not here yet.

So is this a blog?

Yes, and no… Mainly no.

It looks like a blog.

Well, the entire site is built around a weblogging platform called Movable Type. But there’s more going on here than “just blogging.” Look around.

Aha! So it is a blog.

If you want to call it a blog, no one will stop you.
